Management
A reputation for reliability, expertise and flexibility

The core task of our management is to ensure the best possible conditions for efficient operations on our construction sites. To ensure that construction runs smoothly, all processes must be optimally linked and interlinked. This requires not only ongoing communication with all project stakeholders, but also a shared goal: to guarantee our clients high-quality construction work delivered on time.

Quick decision-making, lean structures and the entrepreneurial mindset of our staff set us apart. They are the driving force behind our success. Team spirit is a top priority for us. This is what we build on: we promote teamwork, thereby ensuring the high quality and success of every single construction project. In doing so, we also view our social, economic and environmental responsibilities as key priorities for ensuring the sustainable development of our company and creating added value for all stakeholders.

PORR Wibeba Geschichte Neuorientierung

1941The Beginnings

Wiener Betriebs- und Baugesellschaft mbH was founded in 1941. As a municipal enterprise, it played a key role in maintaining the energy supply for the city of Vienna, which had been severely affected by the turmoil of war, and in advancing the city’s other interests. These included clearing rubble, repairing damage and defects, and implementing necessary emergency measures. In these difficult times, WIBEBA thus passed its first test.

1945Reorientation

After the end of World War II, WIBEBA redefined its mission. The goal was to build thousands of apartments and improve the city’s infrastructure within a short period of time, despite tight budgets and limited resources.

PORR Wibeba Geschichte Expansion

1947Expansion

The creation of new housing, beginning in 1947 with the Per-Albin-Hanson housing development, also meant taking responsibility for Vienna’s quality of life. WIBEBA played a key role in the city’s reconstruction, which in turn led to the company’s rapid expansion. By 1951, the number of employees had risen to over 2,000. The years 1955 through 1964 were marked by an economic boom, particularly in building construction. In 1962, WIBEBA handed over its ten-thousandth apartment since the start of its new construction activities.

PORR Wibeba Geschichte Baukonzern Wien

1964 - 1976Bauring Vienna

The Bauring Wien era followed from 1964 to 1976. Initially, independent construction companies joined together to form a contractual association; in 1969, these were then merged to form Bauring Wien Ges.m.b.H.

WIBEBA continued as a separate division within Bauring Wien. This was the era when construction of the Vienna subway began, and WIBEBA was able to establish itself in this sector as well. Bauring Wien’s entry into international business in 1970 began with successes in the former Czechoslovakia and Hungary, but ended with significant losses on two construction projects in the Middle East.

PORR Wibeba Geschichte Wiener Holding

1976Vienna Holding

In 1976, WIBEBA—like most of its subsidiaries—was spun off from Bauring Wien. Efforts to attract private capital led to a consortium of four companies jointly acquiring a qualified minority stake of 26% in WIBEBA. The main shareholder was Wiener Holding, through which the City of Vienna had consolidated many of its companies.

This difficult business phase, during which the four competitors influenced WIBEBA’s fortunes, lasted until 1990, when Zentralsparkasse acquired the minority shareholders’ stakes.

Beginn 90er JahreA new source of income

The decades that followed were marked by dynamic growth at WIBEBA. In the early 1990s, the company adopted a business strategy centered on six main divisions, with the goal of being more than just a construction firm. The environmental division was expanded to create a new pillar of the business. In building construction and municipal services, strategic investments broadened the company’s business base.

It was not an easy time for WIBEBA: Following periods of recession in the construction industry, the threat of a takeover by competitors, and a difficult business situation, the company withdrew from no longer lucrative business areas and investments, and underwent a change in ownership. First from Wiener Holding to Bank Austria, and since 2001 to B&C Holding / B&C Baubeteiligungsgesellschaft. From the mid-1990s onward, there was an increasing focus on core competencies.

2006Specialization in Municipal Civil Engineering

On January 1, 2006, WIBEBA was acquired by the PORR Group, and its building construction division was spun off. As a result, we expanded our service portfolio. Thanks to the resources available within PORR, we are also able to act as a general contractor on complex projects in locations with difficult access, drawing on various specialized departments. Our flexibility, strong execution capabilities, and efficient construction organization form the foundation for a successful future.
